May 28, 2017 Memorial Day As Memorial Day arrives, the day to remember and honor those military members who have fallen in the defense of our freedom, I hope we all take a few moments to think about what our military service members have done for us. It’s easy to have friends over for an afternoon party in the back yard or a park, drink a few beers, and have some fun in the early summer time. That is the freedom that our military has given us, and we should all take a moment to think about that sacrifice.
While death is the ultimate sacrifice for a military member, there is sacrifice that every member serving in the military deals with every day. When you serve in the military, you are subjected to a much higher level of standards, both professionally and personally, than civilians. Your family is impacted by the abnormal hours, lengthy deployments, and emotional stress caused by what our military people have to deal with on a daily basis. As an Air Force veteran myself, I can attest to the strenuous life of being in the military, it is not easy by any means.
It amazes me to see the society that exists today, with so many people feeling a sense of entitlement, for whatever reason. Yet those people have never done anything to defend their right to do so.
My hope is that we have more Americans recognize those that are making the sacrifices right now, on a daily basis, protecting our freedom. And that we never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Take a moment on Memorial Day to think about those that gave their lives for you.
